Yu-Chiang Frank Wang received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University. Before pursuing his graduate study, he was a research assistant in the Div. of Med. Engineering Research at National Health Research Institutes, where he focused on the research and development of ultrasonic imaging systems. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2004 and 2009, respectively. He is currently an assistant research fellow of the Research Center for Information Technology Innovation (CITI) at Academia Sinica, where he leads the Multimedia and Machine Learning (MML) Lab. He is also an adjunct assistant research fellow at the Institute of Information Science (IIS) of Academia Sinica.
Dr. Wang's research interests span the areas of pattern recognition, machine learning, computer vision, multimedia signal processing and content analysis. His past work included automated target recognition (ATR), multimodal biometrics fusion, and multi-class classification and rejection using hierarchical support vector machines (SVMs). His work on automated target recognition was funded by the US Army Research Office, through Carnegie Mellon. He is currently a member of both IEEE and INNS. He is currently working on several research topics, including object categorization and localization, video object segmentation, learning-based methods for super-resolution, and sparse coding methods for pattern recognition and computer vision applications.
